VIDEO: How to take the stress out of moving

Posted on: Wednesday, July 11, 2018

Between packing your things and preparing for your first night in a new home, moving house takes a lot of organisation, but it doesn’t have to be stressful. Here are some tips to take the stress out of moving.

Stay organised

Pack by room and decide when and how you will organise your things. Organise your belongings into boxes and plan how they will fit in the moving van.

Start packing as soon as you can. Choose non-essential items first, then pack your essentials like furniture and kitchenware on the week of the move.

Take your time

Feeling rushed will make your stress levels skyrocket, so being slow and methodical is the best way to combat moving worry.

Have a backup plan

When you’re planning your move, take a small amount of time to think about the things that could go wrong and write them down, then think of ways to overcome these problems.

Enlist help

Ask for help from your friends and family to take the pressure off on moving day.

Take care of yourself

A healthy diet and plenty of exercise can help take the edge off your moving stress. Taking care of yourself also means that you deserve a treat every now and then, so consider a takeaway on your first night in the new home to reward yourself for all the hard work!
